At its meeting on Monday, the City Council at Star City voted to approve several resolutions associated with plans to tear down the former City Hall building on Jefferson Street across from the post office.

According to the Lincoln Ledger newspaper, Mayor Paul Carter presented plans outlining the construction of a new building to house the Food Pantry run by Lend-A-Hand. A new covered outdoor space will then be constructed for public use and outdoor events.

Carter told the council that the “space is ideal for this purpose because it’s within walking distance from the Town Square.”

The project will be completed in phases as grant funds are available.

The council approved Carter applying for grants from the Arkansas Community and Economic Development Program, a USDA Rural Development grant and a Delta Regional Authority grant.
