By a vote of 5-2 on Monday, the Pine Bluff City Council approved a resolution supporting the development and construction of a restaurant and retail district at Sixth Avenue and Main Street.

The area is across the street from the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Public Library and adjacent to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Business Incubator.

Councilmember Bruce Lockett introduced the proposal and after the meeting talked to Deltaplex News about it.

The project was a part of the Go Forward Pine Bluff plan and according to the resolution, “The Sixth and Main development will offer fully equipped commercial space in addition to technical assistance that will facilitate vertical and horizontal growth as an indicator for the transition of entrepreneurs into storefronts across the city of Pine Bluff.”

It also says that an increase in restaurants, retail markets, and artworks will increase the revenues of the city.

Council members Ivan Whitfield and Glen Brown Sr. voted no on the resolution.
