Federal officials say an Arkansas man has been indicted on assault and firearm charges after he allegedly climbed over a post office counter and fired multiple shots in the direction of an employee.

U.S. Attorney Cody Hiland said Wednesday that Stephen Gregory Potts, 46, of Conway was charged with one count of assaulting a postal service employee and two federal firearms counts.

Authorities say Potts initially appeared to be filling out a mailing label at the post office in Conway on Saturday.  After employees stopped him from walking through a workroom door, he allegedly pulled out a gun, climbed over the counter and fired five or six shots, barely missing a supervisor.

Potts is in federal custody and court records say he does not yet have an attorney who can speak for him.
