An ordinance creating the Pine Bluff Convention Center and Hotel Public Facilities Board was read twice by the City Council Monday night and will be up for a final vote when the council meets for the first time in June.

According to the proposed ordinance, the Pine Bluff Auditorium Complex Commission owns, operates, and manages the Pine Bluff Convention Center and also owns the site housing the former Plaza Hotel.

After the meeting, Monday, Council Member Bruce Lockett, a co-sponsor of the ordinance talked with Deltaplex News about it.

The proposed ordinance says that the Auditorium Commission wants to repair the Convention Center and facilitate the construction and equipping of a hotel adjacent to the Convention Center which will bring in additional events and economic activity.

Under the proposed ordinance, the Commission will be allowed to sell revenue-producing bonds but those bonds will be the full obligation of the commission and not an indebtedness of the city.

Also on Monday. The council voted to suspend the rules and read an ordinance approving the application of Adrianne Dismuke to apply for a private club license for the Daiquiri Lounge which will be located at 208 S. Main St. three times before approving it.

Under state law, applications for private club licenses require the approval of the governing body of the city or county where the club is located. The Planning Commission had previously approved the application.
