The Kingsland City Council is considering calling a special meeting to decide what to do about a contract with the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office.
The city currently contracts with the sheriff’s office for police protection but some council members have complained about not seeing deputies patrolling.
According to the Cleveland County Herald, Kingsland Mayor Sharon Crosby wants to call that meeting before Nov. 13, the day all Cleveland County departments are to turn in their budget requests for 2025.
Sheriff Jack Rodgers told the Cleveland County Quorum Court that if he did not hear from Kingsland by that date he might cancel the contract with Kingsland.
The proposed contract calls for Kingsland to pay the sheriffs office $1,000 a month and would cover the entire year.
