The Board of Trustees of the University of Arkansas elected new officers at its Jan. 26-27 regular meeting, and C.C. “Cliff” Gibson III, of Monticello, will serve as chairman of the 10-member board for the upcoming year.

Gibson, other officers, and members of a new slate of Board committees appointed by Gibson will start their new roles beginning March 1.

In addition to Gibson being elected as chairman, the trustees voted for Morril Harriman to serve as vice chairman; Ted Dickey to serve as secretary, and Kelly Eichler to serve as assistant secretary. The election was announced following an executive session at the Jan. 26-27 meetings at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Stephen Broughton, M.D., of Pine Bluff, served as chairman in the final year of his 10-year term as a trustee. Trustees are appointed to 10-year terms by the governor.

“We’re going to miss Dr. Broughton’s quiet confidence and loyalty toward furthering the growth and prosperity of all institutions within the UA System,” Gibson said. “I consider it an incredible honor to serve alongside this distinguished board and look forward to working together to continue ensuring the integrity and success of the state’s premier university system.”
