The Rison Wildcats have a new football coach after the Cleveland County School District Board voted unanimously to name Caleb Carmikle as their 21st head coach Monday night after Clay Totty resigned to become the head football coach at Wynne.

Cleveland County School District Superintendent Craig Dupuy joined the Oldies 101.3 FM morning show on Tuesday telling Greg Horne that the district is excited about the hire.

Carmikle told Deltaplex News on Monday night that he plans to finish his athletic director responsibilities during basketball season at Magnet Cove before coming to Rison full time. Dupuy gave more information on that decision.

He also spoke about what made him and others decide that Carmikle was the right man for the job.

Carmikle comes to Rison after winning three 5-2A conference championships (2017, 2019, 2021) in his six years at Magnet Cove in addition to serving two years as a head football coach at Glenbrook High School in Minden, La., where he took the team from 1-9 in his first season to 5-5 and a playoff appearance in his second season. Dupuy spoke about his record as a head coach.

Dupuy also said the offense will look a little different at Rison under Carmikle.
