The Cleveland County School District will soon begin a campaign asking voters to approve a millage increase on May 18.

Superintendent Craig Duprey told Deltaplex News on Monday the district will be seeking a five-mill increase which will bring in $8.75 million in new construction money and talked about one of the projects the district wants to do.

Duprey said other projects will include a new bus garage, an arena-type gym capable of seating about 1,500 and an outdoor track which the community can also use.

He said owners of property assessed at $100,000 would pay about an extra $100 annually if the millage passes.

On another subject, Duprey said the deadline for parents in other districts, including nearby Watson Chapel, have until May 1 to file applications for a transfer to Rison and said some parents from Watson Chapel have already turned in their paperwork.

Duprey was also asked about the school shooting at Watson Chapel Junior High two weeks ago, what policies and procedures does his district have.
