The City of Pine Bluff is doing its part to try and increase the number of people who have received COVID-19 vaccination by offering gift cards from Walmart.

At a meeting of the City Council’s Public Health and Welfare Committee Monday, Mayor Shirley Washington talked about what the city wants to do.

The Mayor said the city will sponsor a mass vaccination clinic on Aug. 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., partnering with Doctor’s Orders Pharmacy and the Arkansas Department of Health.

Washington said if all the gift cards are not used during the one-day mass clinic, they can be used later and noted that there are other locations where residents can receive vaccinations, some the same day.

Committee members Steven Shaner, Glen Brown Sr., and Lloyd Holcomb Je., will sponsor the resolution which will go to the full council with a do-pass recommendation. That resolution will be on the agenda for the next meeting of the council on Aug. 2.
