During their last meeting, the City Council of Star City accepted grant money to help pay for a new mosquito fogging machine and to replace the air conditioner at the Civic Center.

According to the Lincoln Ledger newspaper, the council approved a resolution to accept a $4,000 grant from the USDA Rural Development Community Facility Grant program. Those funds will help to pay for the mosquito fogging machine.

Also, the council agreed to a request from Mayor Paul Carter to set up an account for the $7,072 grant from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission Division of Rural Services which much be matched by the city. The money is for the civic center air conditioner.

In other business, Carter said the city has been working to complete paperwork with the USDA on grants to fund the sewer system. He said as soon as the paperwork is approved, bids for construction of the project will go out.

The newspaper also reported that the city has mowed the condemned property at 900 Poplar Street and has got no response from the owner on when the structure will be fixed. City Attorney Clint Todd said  that the city can either repair/tear down the property and put a lien on the property for the cost of work and man hours or force foreclosure.
