City Council approves new football and soccer field at MLK Park

With no dissent, the Pine Bluff City Council Monday adopted a resolution authorizing a contract with 1911 Construction to construct a new Little League football and soccer field at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., park.

Council member Steven Shaner, who was one of the sponsors of the legislation, was asked about it after the meeting.

According to the resolution, 1911 Construction will be paid $298,000 and submitted the lowest of two bids on the project.

J.R. Fox Co., submitted the lowest bid to perform construction work for the University Drive Sewer project and the council authorized the city to enter into a contract with that company, which will be paid $1,535,886 for the work.

In other business, an ordinance amending policies, procedures and guidelines of the Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Department regarding mutual exchanges of tours was read three times and approved by a vote of 8-0.

Council member Glen Brown Jr., who sponsored the legislation was asked about it and said this.

Before the vote, Fire and Emergency Services Chief Shauwn Howell said the legislation makes it clear that exchanging shifts is voluntary and sets out a 90-day period for firefighters who exchange shifts to pay them back.
