A three-year-old child has died after a residential house fire in central Pine Bluff Tuesday afternoon.

According to a press release from the Fire and Emergency Services Department, the child was found in a second-story bedroom of the house at 807 W. 20th and taken to Jefferson Regional Hospital by ambulance where the child died.

The release said firefighters assisted in resuscitation efforts on the way to the hospital and did not identify the child nor say whether it was a male or female.

According to the release, firefighters responded to the house at 2:31 p.m. and when they arrived found heavy smoke and flames coming from multiple sides of the two-story structure.

Because it involved a fatality, the Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the blaze and ruled that it was unintentional and caused by an open flame space heater.

Damage to the structure was listed at $50,000 with another $15,000 conte
