Grammy nominee Chika tweeted over the weekend that she was “retiring,” which apparently prompted a number of negative responses. That prompted the Industry Games artist to take address those commenters for taking aim at her mental health.

“I came on here and said I was retiring because that’s where I’m at physically, mentally and emotionally,” Chika said in a video, shared on Twitter. “And you stupid [people] flooded my comments immediately, not knowing what…I’m going through. You want me to give a good god damn about you and your stupid…fifth grade stan friends?”

In another video, Chika said, “I remember a time where I could literally tweet what…I was feeling in the moment, let it go, move on, possibly stick to my words and it would be nothing. I can’t say [nothing] anymore without somebody dog-piling and making it…worse.”

The 24-year-old admitted she goes to therapy but she didn’t think sharing her mental health status would receive the backlash it did.

“Today, I shared that I was thinking about retiring because of the mental toll being in the industry has taken on me. I[t]s not something you bounce back from easily,” Chika tweeted. “Today, I told Twitter. What followed as a hoard of psychotic fans rejoicing in the decline of my mental health, harassing me as if I spoke to them first.”

“When you have depression, the negative self talk you have towards yourself is deafening. Now imagine a slew of weirdos dog-piling on top of thoughts you already have to fight off yourself,” she continued. “It’s not cool, it’s not ‘trolling’ or ‘stan culture,’ you’re pushing people to a point of no return.”
