Formal charges have been filed against a Pine Bluff man accused in the shooting death of another man Feb. 26.

Prosecuting Attorney S. Kyle Hunter has charged Kevin Gray, 48, with capital murder, four counts of terroristic act and with being a felon in possession of a firearm stemming from prior convictions.

The charges stem from the death of Keith Hawkins, 40, whose body was found inside an apartment at 1020 S. Linden St., after police were sent to a reported armed disturbance

Detective Corey Wilfong reported that officers found four bullet holes in the door of the apartment and were found near the bathroom hallway where the body was found.

Three witnesses reported seeing a large black male get out of an older model Dodge Charger ad shoot into the apartment, then pick up the shell casings and drive away.

Hawkins’ girlfriend told police she and Hawkins were inside the apartment when they heard a loud boom and when they looked outside saw that someone driving a white Dodge Charger had hit her daughter’s car. She said Hawkins went outside and told the driver not to leave and said he was going to call police.

She said the driver then got out of the vehicle and pulled a gun out of his pocket, then said “you’re going to get shot.” She said Hawkins ran in the apartment and she heard him lock the door She said she ran and heard several gunshots.

Wilfong reported that a BOLO (be on the lookout) was issued for the Dodge Charger and Officer Katisha Johnson contacted him and said she had conducted a traffic stop on a white Dodge Charger at 7th Avenue and Linden Street for running a stop sign and driving without lights. The driver of the car was Kevin Gray.

Hawkins girlfriend was shown a photo lineup that included a picture of Gray and she identified him as the person she saw at the apartment.

Gray will be held without bond and told the court he would hire his own attorney.
