A $5,000 cash-only bond was set Tuesday for a Pine Bluff man accused of trying to take money from a woman by force.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Stephen Reed, 26, with robbery.

Reading from an affidavit from Detective Mike Merritt, Deputy Prosecutor Beth Carson said at about 6 p.m. Sunday, police were sent to South Oak Street in response to a reported disturbance.

The victim said she and Reed had been riding around for most of the day and when they arrived at his aunt’s house, Reed told her to give him some money.

Merritt reported that Reed attempted to flee but was caught and when police attempted to question him, he refused to talk so the interview was concluded.

Carson said Reed has a case pending in circuit court and is out on bond in that case.

He was ordered to have no contact with the victim until the case is settled and told to come back to court on Dec. 19.
