Pine Bluff Zebra quarterback Braylon Hopkins has been named the Week 2 Kevin Bonnette State Farm Jefferson County Player of the Week.

Hopkins said he is honored to receive the award.

“It really means a lot,” said Hopkins. “Any of us could have won it because we all played a hard game Friday night, so I’m just honored to get this award.”

He said that now that the Z’s rivalry game against Dollarway has been played, he and his teammates will be rooting for the Cardinals for the rest of the season.

“It means a lot to beat them because there is a lot of trash talk and a lot of hype,” said Hopkins. “Now we don’t have nothing but love for them because they are our brothers from across town, and we will be pulling for them.”

The Zebras are off this Friday night, but will be preparing for a powerful Little Rock Parkview team next week. Hopkins spoke about the preparation he and his teammates are making.

“We are watching a lot of film and this week we are doing a lot of conditioning,” said Hopkins. “Parkview is capable of doing some great things this year. They just won against (Class 7A) Southwest and they have a lot of talent. We have got to be prepared for a tough game against them.

The Z’s had a rough season in 2019, and Hopkins said that there are things they learned from that can help them this year.

“We just have to stay focused this year,” Hopkins said. “Last year we didn’t have the right mindset. This year we have a better understanding of what we must do, so we just have to stay focused on that.”
