BRACKET FINALIZED FOR THE GAC 2021 BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – With the 2021 Great American Conference baseball regular season complete, the league announced the bracket and schedule for the GAC Baseball Championships. The eight-team, single-elimination event begins on Friday from four on-campus locations. The winners head to Henderson State on Monday, May 17 for the semifinals with the final set for the following day.
Top seed Arkansas Tech hosts Southwestern Oklahoma State. The Wonder Boys earned the No. 1 spot for the second time in program history; the previous instance came in 2014. The Bulldogs swept the regular season series in Weatherford last month. In GAC Championship play, Tech owns a 6-0 all-time record against SWOSU.
Second-seeded Southern Arkansas faces Henderson State. SAU won three of the five meetings this season, including two of three in conference play. The Muleriders and Reddies have squared off nine times previously at the GAC Championships, the most frequently played series in championship history.
Oklahoma Baptist, the 2019 GAC Tournament champions, takes on Harding, in a rematch of the 2019 title game. The Bison have reached the final in each of the last two GAC Championships. Oklahoma Baptist claimed the regular-season series, two games to one, by outscoring Harding, 26-16.
Northwestern Oklahoma State clinched its first appearance in the GAC Championships by winning seven of its 11 league series. The Rangers welcome in Arkansas-Monticello for the second time this season. In February, weather shifted the regular-season series between Rangers and Weevils from Monticello to Alva. Northwestern won the final two games of the series.
