A $75,000 bond was set Friday for a Pine Bluff man who allegedly shot his brother during an altercation in August.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Jimmy Walls, 58, with first-degree battery.

During a court hearing, Deputy Prosecutor Jay Girard said the shooting occurred Aug. 29 at a residence in the 4400 block of West Short 5th Avenue. The victim told police he and Walls had gotten into a “heated argument” and Walls pulled out a handgun and shot the victim twice in the left arm.

A witness told police she did not see the shooting but knew that Walls had a gun because he had fired a shot in the air to try and scare her.

Detective DeShawn Bennett reported that the victim was treated at Jefferson Regional Hospital and released.

Girard said court records showed that Walls had a previous conviction for second-degree battery in 2013 and in July of this year was convicted of terroristic act and given a suspended sentence.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Walls who was ordered to have no contact with the victim until the case is settled.
