The newest member of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission appeared on the Oldies 1013 morning show Monday to talk about his appointment.

Bill Jones, who most people think of as “the diamond Guy” from Sissy’s Log Cabin was asked how the appointment came about.

Jones said he had to fill out an application which he did a couple of years ago but that was not successful so he said he continued to try, meeting with Governor Asa Hutchinson (who appointed him) twice, and the governor gave him the word that he would be appointed.

“It was a blessing and a huge surprise,” Jones said.

Members are appointed for one seven-year term and become chairman in their seventh year.

Jones was asked what will be involved in his role on the commission and said this.

He said the public knows a lot about what’s out there but there is a lot that they don’t know and said that was important to him.

He was also asked about the Delta River Nature Center in Regional Park.
