Set your alarm: Beyoncé‘s highly anticipated visual album, Black Is King, is on its way tonight on Disney+.
Queen Bey delivered a special message to fans Thursday on ABC’s Good Morning America about the film she wrote, directed and executive-produced, inspired by the 2019 Disney film The Lion King: The Gift.
“I worked with a diverse group of very gifted directors and actors and creatives from all over the world to reimagine the story of The Lion King. The narrative unfolds through music videos, fashion, dance, beautiful natural settings, and raw talent,” she declared.
Black Is King was shot across the globe — in Los Angeles, South Africa, West Africa, London and Belgium, as well as the backyard of Beyoncé’s New York home.
“It was truly a journey to bring this film to life and my hope for this film is that it shifts the global perception of the word Black, which has always meant inspiration and love and strength and beauty to me,” the singer continued. “Black Is King means Black is regal and rich in history and purpose and in lineage.”
Beyoncé’s also shared a new trailer for the film on Instagram, featuring images ranging from an animal-print luxury car to a comet piercing the sky as four women dance. Another features a sea of men and women in brightly colored suits of pink, orange and purple hues.
Beyoncé’s Black Is King arrives at midnight on Disney+, featuring a star-studded cast including Naomi Campbell, Lupita Nyong’o, Kelly Rowland and Jay-Z, as well as artists from The Lion King: The Gift soundtrack, including Pharrell Williams, and Bey and Jay-Z’s daughter, Blue Ivy.
