The Jefferson Count Election Commission has a new member after the resignation of Republican Stuart “Stu” Soffer.

According to a press release, the Jefferson County Republic Committee voted to replace Soffer with Samuel “Sam” Beavers, who was selected during a meeting of the committee Aug. 26.

A notice of the selection was filed with the Jefferson County Clerk on Tuesday.

The press release went on to say that Beavers is a commercial insurance agent and a resident of Pine Bluff. He graduated from Watson Chapel High School and is the radio voice of Watson Chapel football on the Deltaplex Radio Network.

Previously, he served as a student assistant coach and president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff after participating in both football and golf for the Golden Lions.

Beavers interned under Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge in 2019 and graduated with a degree in political science in 2020.
