In addition to electing a governor and other constitutional officers as well as candidates for local and county races, the November General Election is also a time to elect members of the Watson Chapel School District Board.

The recent action by the board to fire Superintendent Andrew Curry has sparked a lot of interest in the seat currently held by Board President Sandra Boone.

On Monday, Sam Beavers, a member of the Jefferson County Election Commission was a guest on the Oldies 1013 morning show and talked about how to go about running for a seat on the board.

Beavers went on to explain how to get started.

He explained that potential candidates can start to collect signatures on petitions 90 days before the election and those petitions must be turned in by Aug. 10.

Asked if there were other things a potential candidate would need, Beavers answered this way.

Potential candidates can find all the forms they need by going to the Secretary of State’s website.

In addition to Boone, who represents Zones 3 and 5, Board Member Chris Dutton, who represents Zone 3 is up for reelection.
