PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff baseball team lost the series finale to Texas Southern 9-6 Sunday at Torii Hunter Baseball Complex / Bill Jones Field.

Andrew Szalkowski and Ryan Mallison each had two hits for UAPB (5-22 overall, 2-10 SWAC), which returns to action Wednesday at Stephen F. Austin.

Trailing 1-0, the Golden Lions started fast in the opening inning. Justin Robinson leadoff with an infield single before Nick Kreutzer walked. Andrew Szalkowski singled to left field scoring Robinson as Kreutzer moved to third. An RBI groundout by Larry Sims scored Kreutzer. With two out, Mallison’s single to center scored Szalkowski for a 3-1 lead.

After Texas Southern (8-17, 6-6) scored three runs in the third, the Golden Lions tied the score in the bottom of the inning. With one out, Sims doubled to left field, and scored on Mallison’s singled to center to even the score at 4-4.

Trailing 7-4, UAPB scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh. Robinson walked, and Kreutzer reached on an error. With one out, Sims reached on a fielder’s choice as an error loaded the bases. Robinson then scored on a passed ball as all the runners advanced one base. Brandon Simon then reached on an error, allowing Kreutzer to score to cut the deficit to 7-6, but the Golden Lions could get no closer. Texas Southern added two runs in the ninth for the final margin.
