Baseball Erases Big Deficit But Falls To Grambling
The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff baseball team erased one big deficit but the second one as a late rally fell short in a 14-11 Sunday contest to Grambling at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex at Bill Jones Field.
Trailing 7-0 in the first, the Golden Lions chipped away with two runs in the first, second, and fourth innings, with a three-run fifth giving UAPB the lead.
With two outs in the first, Kreutzer reached on an error, and Esparza singled before Sims’ double scored Kreutzer and Esparza to put UAPB on the board.
In the second, White singled, and Justin Robinson walked. With two out, Kreutzer’s two-run single scored both runners to cut the deficit to 7-4.
In the fourth, Parker singled with two out, and scored on a Kreutzer double off the center field wall. Esparza then doubled to left field scoring Kreutzer as the Lions crept to within 7-6.
UAPB took the led in the fifth. With one out, Simon singled to center field, and stole second before Austin Krzeminski walked. White’s double to left field scored both runners to give UAPB the lead at 8-7. With two out, Parker’s single to left scored White for a 9-7 Golden Lion lead.
However, Grambling answered with seven in the sixth inning to retake the lead.
UAPB added a pair of runs in eighth. With one out, Esparza singled to left, and Sims double to left center. Esparza then scored on a balk, and a sacrifice fly by Roesch scored Sims for the final margin.
The Golden Lions return to action Tuesday in a 3 p.m. home game vs. Central Arkansas.
