One of the longest serving news anchors in state history has passed. Bur Edson, the trusted face of KFSM in Fort Smith/Fayetteville’s evening newscasts for over two decades, died Wednesday night at the age of 77.
Edson died after a battle with pneumonia, according to his family.
Edson was the longest-serving news anchor in the station’s history, known for his commanding presence and calm demeanor over two stints at 5NEWS from 1978 to 1986 and 1990 to 2002. He also served as KFSM’s news director for seven years.
Edson stepped away from the anchor desk in 2002 to pursue a new chapter as the operator of a metal manufacturing business in Lavaca. He later settled in Massachusetts.
He leaves behind his wife, two daughters and a son. Funeral arrangements have not been announced at this time.
