A reported domestic disturbance Wednesday resulted in the arrest of a Pine Bluff man who allegedly assaulted his mother.

James McKendrick, 42, was taken into custody after his mother told police she and her son had gotten into a verbal altercation that turned physical.

During a court hearing, Deputy Prosecutor Joe West said the victim told police her son was mad because she had refused to buy him a new phone after his broke. She said he grabbed her by the throat and hit her with his fist. She is 74-years-old.

Because of the victim’s age, Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth ruled prosecutors have probable cause to charge McKendrick with second-degree domestic battery. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim until the case is settled.
