A Pine Bluff man was arrested Monday after he allegedly pointed a gun at his wife during an altercation.

Joseph Baker, 63, was taken into custody after police responded to a reported armed disturbance at 1000 E. Harding Ave.

During a court hearing Tuesday, Deputy Prosecutor Caleb Conrad said Baker’s wife told officers she and her husband had gotten into a verbal altercation that turned physical when he pointed a gun at her and threatened to shoot her.

Detective Keith Banks reported that Baker’s adult daughter witnessed the altercation and told police Ms. Baker had been cheating on Mr. Baker and he knew it. She said he pulled a gun and Ms. Baker went into the house and got her gun.

When he was questioned, Baker admitted pulling a gun on his wife because he knew she also had a gun and he hoped she wouldn’t shoot him.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $2,500 bond for Baker after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with aggravated assault on a family or household member. Baker was ordered to have no contact with his wife until the case is settled.
