The Pine Bluff City Council on Monday approved a resolution that will use money from the American Rescue Plan to cover salaries and deductions for police and fire department personnel, freeing up money that had been budgeted in the 2022 overall budget for that purpose.

Councilmember Joni Alexander appeared on the Oldies 1013 morning show Tuesday and explained what the resolution meant.

Asked how the $10 million will be used, Alexander said it would be up to the Mayor and members of the council to decide.

Morning show host Greg Horne told Alexander that the city has all kinds of needs and some members of the council have tried to take money designated for Go Forward Pine Bluff for those needs. This seems like a way to do that.

Alexander responded this way.

Alexander went on to say one of the biggest needs is new software for the city.
