The Grider Field Airport has received a federal grant to improve runway lighting, according to airport manager Doug Hale.

At a meeting of the City Council’s Traffic and Aviation Committee Tuesday morning, Hale said;

Hale said a condition of the FAA grant is that the council adopt a resolution accepting the federal grant and a motion to recommend the grant be approved by the full council at its next meeting was approved by the committee, Council Members Joni Alexander, Steven Shaner, and Ivan Whitfield.

Hale then explained the grant itself.

The cost of the project was put at $370,802, Hale said.

Also on the subject of the airport, Hale said the runway straightening project is still on hold because of wet grounds and he hoped that it could resume in the next couple of weeks if the rain stays away.
