JONESBORO, Ark. (7/28/21) – After the Arkansas State baseball team registered a 3.39 grade-point average for the 2020-21 academic year, the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) honored the program once again with one of its Team Academic Excellence Awards on Wednesday.

The Red Wolves joined Little Rock as the only two Sun Belt Conference schools on the list, which featured 94 Division-I programs. Only three Division-I squads in Arkansas received the award. In total, 381 college programs from Divisions II, III, and NAIA, as well as the junior college ranks earned honors for academics.

A-State has earned ABCA Team Academic Excellence Awards in each of the last two years (2019-20, 2020-21) and five of the last six dating back to 2015-16.

The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation’s oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA’s awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/Diamond Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and the Ethics in Coaching Award.

Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with the award, which recognizes teams coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA of over 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the 2020-21 academic year.
