Arkansas State men’s basketball head coach Bryan Hodgson announced Wednesday the addition of Northwest Florida State College transfer Taryn Todd to the 2023-24 roster. Todd will have two years of eligibility remaining.

“We are super excited to have Taryn Todd join us,” said Hodgson. “One of the big things we wanted to do this offseason was add veteran guys to our roster. Taryn is a veteran guard who has been in college basketball for four seasons and still has two seasons of eligibility remaining. He adds some much-needed depth to our backcourt and is a dynamic ballhandler with the tools to be an elite defender. Taryn has played college basketball at the highest level, and we are excited to have his experience and knowledge on our roster.”

A 6-foot-5 guard with 55 games of Division I experience, Todd comes to the Red Wolves after stops at TCU (2019-21), New Mexico (2021-22) and Northwest Florida State College (2022-23). In his Division I career, he has totaled 239 points (4.3), 103 rebounds (1.9), 55 assists (1.0), 36 steals (0.7) and 20 blocks (0.4) while shooting 40.2 percent (82-204) from the field, 44.5 percent (57-128) beyond the arc and 69.4 percent (50-72) at the free-throw line.

Playing as a redshirt sophomore at Northwest Florida State College, Todd started all 34 games and averaged 9.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.0 steals per game. He shot 46.4 percent (134-289) from the field, 25.5 percent (13-51) beyond the arc and 69.3 percent (52-75) at the charity stripe. Todd helped lead the Raiders to a runner-up finish at the NJCAA Tournament ending the season at 29-8 overall, Panhandle Conference Champions and Region 8 Champions.

Playing at New Mexico during the 2021-22 season, Todd appeared in 29 games and made 13 starts. He averaged 4.2 points and 2.2 rebounds per game setting a career high of 16 points against Grambling. He posted 12 points and seven steals at Colorado and added 14 points against Towson. He ranked second on the team with 22 steals.

After redshirting in 2019-20, Todd competed in 26 games for TCU as a redshirt-freshman in 2020-21. He averaged 4.5 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game in 17.6 minutes per game. He finished third on the team in 3-point percentage, shooting 38.3 percent from behind the arc, and racked up at least 10 points twice.

Prior to attending TCU, Todd was ranked the 13th-best player in Canada by North Pole Hoops. He also earned a three-star rating by 247Sports after competing for Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nev., where he averaged 12.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.9 steals.

Todd joins transfers LaQuill Hardnett (Buffalo), Dyondre Dominguez (UMass), Fredd Hicks (Tarleton State) and Derrian Ford (Arkansas) as additions to the 2023-24 roster for head coach Bryan Hodgson.
