A $75,000 bond was set Monday for a former jailer at the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Adult Detention Center who was arrested after contraband was found on her person and belongings.
Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Miakia Ellis, 23, with possession of a controlled substance with purpose to deliver, criminal conspiracy, furnishing prohibited articles and illegal use of communication devices.
During the court hearing, Deputy Prosecutor Brittaney Akel said on Oct. 8, Tri-County Drug Task Force agents were contacted about cell phones found inside the adult jail.
On Friday, jail personnel detained Ellis and a search of her person and clothing resulted in the location of three plastic baggies containing suspected marijuana or K-2, thee cell phones, lighters, charging cords and rolling papers.
Ellis said she would hire her own attorney and was told to come back to court Jan. 8.
