A $500k bond was set for a PB man being charged with first-degree murder

A $500,000 bond was set Wednesday for a Pine Bluff man accused of shooting another man to death Monday.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Leon Johnson, 22, with first-degree murder.

Reading from an affidavit by Detective Jason Boykin, Chief Deputy Prosecutor Jill Reed said on Monday at 4:15 p.m. police were sent to the Suzanne Apartments at212 S. Blake St., in response to a reported shooting.

Boykin reported that the witness identified Johnon and also picked him out of a six-person photo lineup.

Johnson turned himself in later that night and was read his rights before being interviewed.

Johnson’s family told prosecutors they would hire an attorney for him and he was told to come back to court Dec. 18.
