Barring any unforeseen emergencies, Jefferson County Judge Gerald Robinson presided over what is expected to be his final Quorum Court meeting Monday night. Robinson is set to retire effective June 30.
Following the regular meeting, eight members of the Quorum Court convened a special meeting to begin the process of selecting an interim county judge.
During the session, a memo from Mark Whitmore, chief legal counsel for the Association of Arkansas Counties, was read into the record. The guidance states the county may proceed with the selection process once a public notice is issued seeking applicants for the position.
Under the outlined process, any Jefferson County resident is eligible to apply. Applications must be submitted to the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office no later than June 10.
Robinson said a successor cannot be selected while he remains in office.
The Quorum Court is scheduled to meet again next month.
