The short-lived Seattle punk band The Living, featuring a 17-year-old, pre-Guns N’ Roses Duff McKagan on guitar, is coming back to life.
Loosegroove Records, the label co-founded by Pearl Jam‘s Stone Gossard, is releasing The Living’s debut album, The Living: 1982, for the first time on April 16.
The record consists of seven original songs written by McKagan. You can listen to the track “Two Generation Stand” now via digital outlets.
Along with Duff, The Living featured vocalist John Conte, bassist Todd Fleischman and future Mother Love Bone drummer Greg Gilmore. The group didn’t last too long, and Seattle-native McKagan ended up moving to Los Angeles, where he would join up with GN’R.
“It doesn’t matter what year this music was recorded ’cause it is undeniable,” Gossard says. “The fact that Duff, Greg, Todd and John created these fully realized songs in 1982 gives credence to the idea that this band, The Living, are ground zero for the Seattle sound.”
