Authorities have destroyed about 600 gaming machines seized from an illegal gambling operation in Jefferson County. Jefferson County Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr. says the agency had paid about $22,400 to store the machines at the Pines Mall in Pine Bluff since the machines were seized in 2013.

The gaming machines were destroyed in plans to take shape up for the first legal casino in the county. The Oklahoma-based Quapaw Tribe plans to open the Saracen Casino Resort in Pine Bluff next year. In November, voters approved casinos at four sites, one each in Jefferson County, Pope County, Hot Springs and West Memphis.
