A $50,000 bond was set Monday for a Pine Bluff man accused of hitting a relative in the head with a baseball bat.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge DeQuan Williams, 31, with second-degree domestic battery and aggravated assault on a family or household member.

Reading from an affidavit by Detective Keith Banks, Deputy Prosecutor Beth Carson said at 2:50 a.m. Friday, police were sent to a reported domestic disturbance on West 23rd Street.

Banks reported that one of the witnesses confirmed that Willams had hit the victim with the bat first and said she grabbed for her keys, got the pepper spray and sprayed him in the face.

Carson said Williams has pending charges of aggravated assault and terroristic threatening.

He was ordered to have no contact with the victim and told to come back to court Dec. 21.
