A $500,000 bond was set Monday for one adult and a juvenile accused of being involved in a shooting at Martin Luther King Jr. park that resulted in the death of one person and injuries to four more.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Deshawn Chapman, 20, and Desmond Richards with one count of first-degree murder, four counts of first-degree battery, and three counts of the terroristic act.

Richards is being charged as an adult.

Reading from an affidavit by Detective Corey Wilfong, Deputy Prosecutor Beth Carson said at 2 a.m. May 7, police were notified that there were gunshot victims arriving at Jefferson Regional Hospital. A vehicle arrived driven by a juvenile female who had a gunshot wound to the neck and the vehicle had two bullet holes in it.

A third vehicle, a Dodge Charger also arrived at the hospital containing a gunshot victim and two other male juveniles who said they were at Martin Luther King Park when someone started shooting at them. That car was followed by an ambulance containing a 16-year-old male who later died of his injuries.

Carson said police located Richards and later Chapman and conducted interviews with both of them.

Chapman and Richards were ordered to have no contact with the victims until the case is settled.
