A $500,000 bond was set Wednesday for a Pine Bluff man who allegedly shot his former girlfriend Monday.
Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Anthony Clifton, 41, with first-degree domestic battery and committing a terroristic act.
Prosecuting Attorney S. Kyle Hunter said Monday morning, police responded to a call reporting gunshots at the Lakeshore Apartments at 505 W. Barraque St. The call came from a person who did not identify themselves.
Detective Jason Boykin reported when police arrived, they located two vehicles on Barraque Street that had bullet holes in the sides and the doors. Officers looked inside one of the vehicles and found a white female who was bleeding. She was taken to the hospital and officers were not able to get a statement.
Officers also located five nine-millimeter shell casings on the parking lot.
Hunter said residents of the complex that Clifton had dated the victim and he was located in his apartment and taken to the detective office where he was questioned. He reportedly told police he and the victim had broken up around Christmas and he did not know why she had come around the apartments. He said he was asleep and his mother woke him after hearing gunshots.
Boykin reported that before talking to Clifton, he listened to the 911 tape and realized that Clifton was the one who made the call to MECA. When asked if he had a weapon in the apartment, Clifton reportedly said he had a .22 but during a search, a nine-millimeter handgun was located and bullets in the magazine matched shell casings found at the scene.
In asking for the $500,000 bond, Hunter said the victim might not survive and the case would be a homicide.
Clifton was ordered to have no contact with the victim and told to come back to court March 19.
