A $50,000 bond was set Wednesday for an inmate at the adult detention center accused of punching a jailer in the face.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Monroe Nesby, 30, with second-degree battery.

Reading from an affidavit from Sheriff’s Sgt. Terry Wingard and Deputy Prosecutor Joe West explained what happened.

Nesby was ordered to have no contact with the victim whose official duties were exempt from the order. He was told to come back to court on Feb. 7.
