A $40,000 bond was set Wednesday for a Pine Bluff man previously convicted of a felony who was arrested after several guns were found in the vehicle he was driving.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Jailen Wilson, 25, with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

During the court hearing, Deputy Prosecutor Mircha King said police were doing a walk through at Southeast Apartments at 1100 E. 36th Ave., Monday when they saw a Maroon Chevrolet Tahoe parked in a fire zone and an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle because the front drivers and passengers side windows were down.

King said when police approached the vehicle, the driver, later identified as Wilson fled on foot.

When Wilson was questioned, he admitted possession of the AR pistol and said he carried it for protection and never left home without it. He also said he knew he was a convicted felon even though he had never been to prison.

King said court records showed that Wilson was convicted of a residential burglary in 2015 and sentenced to probation.

He said he would hire his own attorney.
