Bounce, the TV network rich in Black programming, announced Thursday that the 30th Anniversary Trumpet Awards will take place at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood on April 23 and will air on Juneteenth, Sunday, June 19. Due to COVID-19 concerns, the event was rescheduled from its original air date, Jan. 17, Martin Luther King Jr. day.
“It’s fitting that we will honor Black excellence and achievement on a day that is a commemoration of such a significant moment in our history as African Americans,” said Cheryle Harrison, head of Bounce. “We appreciate everyone’s patience in our having to adjust this year’s schedule. Health and safety are a priority for our guests, honorees and staff.”
Founded in 1992 by American Civil Rights leader Xernona Clayton, the Trumpet Awards were conceived to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of African Americans and those who have succeeded against great odds and inspired success in others.
This year honorees are Courtney B. Vance, who will receive the Excellence in Entertainment Award; director Stan Lathan, who will receive the Living Legend Award; National Spelling Bee winner Zaila Avant-garde, who will receive the Rising Star Award; Georgia Senators Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, who will receive the Xernona Clayton Award of Distinction; and Princess Sarah Culberson, who will receive the Impact Award.
To help pay tribute to this year’s honorees, Tamron Hall, JB Smoove and Sanaa Lathan are among the list of special guests. Musical performers include Tank, PJ Morton, Dru Hill and Mary Mary, with more to be announced.
The 30th Anniversary Trumpet Awards will air on Bounce on Sunday, June 19 at 7 p.m. ET.
