A car that had been reported stolen in Memphis in September was recovered in Pine Bluff Thursday and a Jacksonville man who claimed he bought the car was arrested.

Christopher Morris, 40, told police he paid $400 for the car in North Little Rock.

During a court hearing Friday, Deputy Prosecutor Mircha King said at 530 p.m., police were sent to the area of 4th Avenue and Commerce Road where the car, a 2008 black Kia was found unoccupied in a parking lot.

When Morris was questioned, he acknowledged his rights but said he did not want to make a statement without an attorney.

King said Police contacted Memphis authorities who confirmed that a stolen report on the car had been filed Sept. 24.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $25,000 bond for Morris after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with theft by receiving.

Morris said he would hire his own attorney.
