A West Helena man was killed in a single vehicle accident in Arkansas County near DeWitt early Sunday morning.

According to a report from the Arkansas State Police, 23-year-old Jaylon Leroy Johnson of West Helena was driving a 2013 Chevy Tahoe southbound on Highway 1near State Highway 153 when he crossed the northbound lane, exiting the roadway to the left. He then traveled along a guardrail before striking a bridge pillar.

He was taken to the DeWitt Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the report.

It was raining and the road was wet at the time of the crash, according to the report.

To date, 534 fatalities have occurred on Arkansas highways in 2024.
