The Pine Bluff Police Department is in the early stages of a domestic related homicide. Shortly before 4:00 p.m. officers were called to a residence in the 1700 block of Belmoor Avenue in reference to a shooting. Upon arriving they found a 55-year-old woman and her 21-year-old son with gunshot wounds. The suspect was on scene and was in a physical altercation with another person. The suspect was taken into custody and an ambulance called for the injured.

All three were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The mother had what is described as a non-life-threatening wound. The male victim, however, died of his injuries.

Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley identified the victim as Me’Akel Martin, 21, who was pronounced dead at 6:51 p.m. by a doctor in the Emergency Room at Jefferson Regional Hospital. Kelley said the body would be sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office at Little Rock Sunday for an autopsy.

The incident is still being investigated but at this time it is believed the suspect, who is the woman’s son and the man’s brother, is responsible for the shooting. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time. He will be held on the charge of 1st Degree Murder. This will be the 14th homicide in 2021.
