A $20,000 cash-only bond was set Tuesday for a Pine Bluff man previously convicted of multiple felonies after he was arrested following a traffic stop Sunday night.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Julius Johnson, 45, with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Reading from an affidavit from Sheriff’s Investigator Sgt. Terry Wingard, Deputy Prosecutor Beth Carson said at about 10:4 p.m., deputies were at Dollarway Road and Hutchinson Street when they saw a blue Cadillac traveling south that had an expired license plate sticker.

After confirming that the license was expired, deputies attempted a traffic stop.

Carson said Johnson has prior convictions for being a felon in possession of a firearm, second-degree murder, and possession of a controlled substance, and has a pending charge of felony domestic battery for which he is due to go to trial in June.

In addition, the Department of Community Corrections has placed a parole hold on him and he will be held without bond pending a hearing.

Johnson was told to come back to court on May 1.
