A reported shooting incident at an apartment on East 26th Friday resulted in the arrest of a woman who told police she had shot a man because he pointed a gun at her and threatened to kill her.

Precious Bennett, 52, was taken into custody after officers were sent to the 1100 block of East 26th Avenue where they reported seeing blood inside and outside an apartment.

Deputy Prosecutor Mircha King explained what happened next.

Detective Mike Merrill reported that the victim was located at 1601 S. Laurel St., and police reported seeing a wound to the left thigh that had fractured a bone.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $20,000 bond for Bennett Monday after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge her with first-degree battery. She was ordered to have no contact with the victim until the case is settled.
