A $20,000 bond was set Tuesday for a Jefferson County man accused of choking and kicking his girlfriend Sunday.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Mahammad Ali, 40, with aggravated assault.

Reading from an affidavit from White Hall Police Maj. Mickey Buffkin, Deputy Prosecutor Beth Carson said at 11 a.m., officers were sent to a reported domestic disturbance at 302 Micelle and when they arrived, were told that the aggressor, later identified as Ali had left the apartment in a vehicle.

Ali was ordered to have no contact with the victim and told to come to court Nov. 10.
