WASHINGTON—Fourth District Congressman Bruce Westerman (R-Ark) on Thursday reacted to a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives to raise the country’s debt limit. In a statement released by his office, Westerman said:

“Today, House Democrats unilaterally voted to suspend the debt limit once again to pay for their own reckless spending,” said Congressman Westerman. “Speaker Pelosi brought this bill to the floor so that she can run up the debt to “pay for” her liberal priorities in the upcoming reconciliation bill. This vote is intricately linked to the over $4 trillion reconciliation bill that will raise taxes and hurt small businesses across America.

Until Congress takes real steps to act responsibly and spend more wisely, I cannot support a limitless debt limit suspension that allows Speaker Pelosi to go on a liberal spending spree.”
