A $15,000 bond was set Wednesday for a Pine Bluff man currently on parole after police found him in possession of a loaded handgun.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Spencer Quarles, 36, with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Reading from an affidavit by Detective Keith Banks, Deputy Prosecutor Joe West said on Sunday, police were sent to 6th Avenue and Blake Street in response to a reported disturbance.

West said when Banks questioned Quarles, he admitted having the gun and said he found it on the ground.

Quarles is currently on parole and is also out on bond of a charge of breaking or entering and West said prosecutors will be filing a motion to revoke that bond.

The Public Defenders Office was appointed to represent Quarles and he was told to come back to court June 29.
